What is Move-a-thon?
Move-a-thon is a 5-week fundraiser where kids move their bodies and ask friends, family, and neighbors to support their cause — all to raise money for Jackson. Students earn credit for dollars raised, with fun prizes for our top earners. Logging your activity minutes matters too — it’s used as a tiebreaker when classes or students are neck and neck in fundraising, so every minute logged genuinely improves your chances.
What counts as movement? Literally anything! Dancing in the kitchen, riding a scooter, hiking, kicking a soccer ball, jumping rope, rolling through the park in a wheelchair, playing tag, walking the dog. If your body is moving, it counts. Move-a-thon is for every kid, however they move best.

How it works
Think of it as running your own mini fundraising campaign for your kid, with help from your community.

Register your student at the Get Movin' Fundraising Hub using our school identifier (5d5d6c7489038 for new families).

Your student gets their own personal fundraising page — a simple webpage with their name, their goal, and a "Donate Here" button.

Make it personal! Add a photo or a short video — even a quick one your kid records themselves explaining why Jackson matters to them can make a real difference. (Have more than one kid at Jackson? You can set up a family page and split donations between siblings — no need to run separate campaigns.) Need inspiration? Here's a video two Jackson students made for their family page — feel free to use it as a starting point for yours!

Share the page with friends, family, and neighbors — text it, email it, post it on social media. The easier you make it for people to find the "Donate Here" button, the faster it adds up.

Track your progress right on the page — watch your goal bar fill up as donations come in, and see how your class and grade are doing too.
It really is that simple — and it works. Last year, Jackson families raised $80,705 this way.

Tier 2: Classroom Challenge
The #1 fundraising classroom in every grade wins a class pizza party! Every dollar helps your class climb the leaderboard.
Tier 3: Grade-level Challenge
Classes team up! The top-earning grade level in Early Grades (TK–2nd) and Upper Grades (3rd–5th) each win a Water Ice Philly party for the entire grade.
Teacher & Staff Prize
The top fundraising teacher or staff member school-wide wins an Altadena Bicycle Club SpaceX retrofit, a one-of-a-kind bike upgrade!
Grand Prize: Move-a-Thon MVP
This year, we're crowning two MVPs: one from Early Grades (TK–2nd) and one from Upper Grades (3rd–5th), so our youngest fundraisers get a fair shot against our biggest classes!
Each MVP takes home a refurbished bike and helmet, plus their turn as Co-Principal for the Day, because with two MVPs, two Principals means twice the fun! They'll lead announcements, visit classrooms, and get a behind-the-scenes look at school life alongside Principal Villagrana, a student-favorite experience they'll never forget. And since every student who signs up and shares their fundraiser already earns an Altadena Library Fun Pack, our MVPs have that covered too!

Credit/debit donations accepted directly on Get Movin'.
To give by check or cash, make checks payable to "Pasadena Educational Foundation," write "Jackson Move-a-thon" in the memo line, and turn it in to your student's teacher or the Annual Fund box in the front office.

Move-a-thon Day is for everyone! 🎉
On October 9th, every student celebrates during their lunch period — a smoothie station, a dance party in the auditorium, and fun activities for all, no fundraising required to join in. Since lunch is split by grade band, each group gets their own celebration throughout the day. It's also when we celebrate our top fundraisers by presenting them with their refurbished bikes!
